At the end of 1999, Honda unveiled the VTR1000 SP-1 (RC51) a purpose built superbike created to dominate twin-cylinder racing. Developed with direct input from Honda Racing Corporation, the SP-1 was an all new machine, unrelated to the earlier Firestorm. It showcased cutting edge engineering, including gear-driven camshafts and meticulous race focused design, echoing the legendary RC30 and RC45 lineage.

Built to take on and surpass Ducati both on track and in showrooms, the SP-1 delivered more power and modern performance while remaining competitively priced.
